VSLL's Annual Membership Meeting and Election for the 2022-23 Board of Directors is scheduled for 5pm on Sunday, August 21 at the VRP pavilion closest to the west baseball fields.  Please bring your own chair, as there will be very limited seating.  Absentee ballots are available from VSLL Secretary Jenna Ross ([email protected]).

We are pleased to present the following candidates for your consideration:

Matt McGee

Matt McGee started managing in VSLL in 2016 and will be entering his 8th season as a VSLL volunteer.  Matt has served as an elected member of the Board of Directors since August 2020.  During the 2021-2022 season, Matt served as the VSLL Coaching Coordinator and Minors AAA Division Vice President, managed a Minors AAA baseball and Coach Pitch softball team and umpired several AAA games.  Matt has also served as Coaching Coordinator and Minors AA and Tee Ball Division Vice President in previous seasons.

Jon Ross

Jon has been a member of the VSLL board since 2019.  He was an appointed member of the board for the 2019-2020 season and served as an elected board member for the past two years.  He has worked with both baseball and softball holding the roles of VP of T-Ball, VP of Single A, Umpire In Charge for both baseball and softball, manager in softball and manager in baseball.  In addition, he was the assistant coach of the 11u baseball All Star team in 2021.  Jon is eager to continue working on the board in the capacity of a league VP as well as any other roles that are needed.  Prior to coming to VSLL, Jon was an elected member of the Wayne Little League (NJ) Board of Directors and served for two years prior to moving to Viera. While part of Wayne LL, Jon served as schedule administrator, UIC, assisted with baseball operations, managed multiple teams, and ranked players prior to the draft.

Cheryl Duarte-Martin

Cheryl has been part of VSLL for the last 6 years and has children playing softball and baseball.  She served for several seasons as Team Mom and, most recently, as VSLL Treasurer. Cheryl held various board positions including three years as Secretary of her condo association HOA, three years as Alumni Board member representing recent graduates from the University of Portland, and one year as VP of Membership with the Junior League of Portland, a non-profit women's organization. She is a Certified Fraud Examiner and currently works in the Online Payments space for a Financial Tech company.

Mark Huffman

I have been involved with Little League baseball for over 30 years now. I coached both baseball and softball teams over the years. I was involved with a few leagues over that time, but I have been involved with VSLL since 2009. I have been on the VSLL board since 2011.

Over the years I have had many hats on the board, from security to uniforms to baseball operations to equipment orders. In that time, I have worked with 7 different presidents and been involved with many different accomplishments - from 2 new batting cages being built in Viera, to getting the Mercedes field in Suntree converted to a 50/70 field, and a batting fence cage going up in Viera around 2 batting lanes.

Over the past 30+ years I have been involved with Little League a lot. The first 6 or so years I did not have a child involved with me, but I enjoy teaching kids the game of baseball (and softball while my daughter was playing). I enjoy seeing the kids develop over time as they enhance their skills to become better ball players, and hopefully, to grow and learn to love the game as I have and to have fun, win or lose.

 I am passionate about helping our league grow and hope to be a part of this year’s board.

-One season of soccer for Brandon Youth Soccer League in Brandon, Mississippi
-One season of soccer for Suntree Soccer Club in Melbourne, Florida
-One season of T-ball / Coach Pitch for i9 Sports in Viera, Florida
-Two seasons of flag football for Suntree Viera Youth Football League in Viera, Florida
-Two seasons of T-ball for Viera Suntree Little League
-Two seasons of Single A for Viera Suntree Little League
-Two seasons of Double A for Viera Suntree Little League

I feel the most rewarding parts of coaching is helping the kids reach their potential, seeing them make friends, becoming a “team,” and seeing them apply what the coaches teach on the field.  I am known for my calm demeanor, level headedness, and even temper.

I live in Suntree, and my son Matthew is 9 years old and plays in the league.

I played 15 years professionally with 9 different MLB organizations.

I also played two years in Japan .

I am currently scouting AAA and MLB games, which I have done for the last 13 years.

I have studied the Japanese and American approaches to the game. I love to help the kids get better, but most of all, help them learn to love the game.

Jeff Bucher

Jeff Bucher started coaching in VSLL in 2020 and will be entering his 6th season as a VSLL volunteer.  In addition to coaching, Jeff most recently served as the Single A (Machine Pitch) Vice President  for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 seasons. The Spring 2022 season Single A season consisted of 10 teams and nearly 100 players (the 2nd largest league in VSLL in 2022). Jeff has a son and a step son who are players in VSLL. Jeff holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Purdue University and a MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
